Sailing Tours in Costa Rica - Our Vessel

"Haiku" is 44' 0" overall, 26' 6" extreme beam, 3' 6" draft with the centerboard up and 6' 0" with the board down. The displacement is 11 tons net 13 gross.

The construction of this professionally built sailboat is cold-molded Bruynzeel mahogany, 3 plys with West System epoxy monocoque, constructed in 1985 by California Custom Boats. A high-tech, lightweight, pre-preg carbon cruising interior was installed in 2001.  Haiku has a new conventional mast with fully battened main and fractional jib.
Sails are Cruise-Lam Dacron and Spectra by Skip Elliot and are in excellent condition. An asymmetrical spinnaker sets off a canting alloy bowsprit.

The interior has 3 double berths in 3 cabins, a double in the forward cabin, main salon and a separate and private aft cabin with its own head. This arrangement is exceedingly comfortable and practical at sea or harbor and very lightweight.  All electronics and major equipment have been updated including windlasses, wiring, plumbing and deck hardware.

Auxiliary propulsion is by new 40 hp Volvo D2-40  installed in 2008, 3 blade prop. - Fishing gear - Scuba tanks and gear.

One cabin is for captain. Crew sleeps on deck and guests are welcome to their own cabin or to sleep on the deck.
